A deeply personal, intimate monodrama by Ksawery Szlenkier. The performance script is composed by the actor from poems by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, a Warsaw Uprising fighter who died on August 4, 1944 during the fighting for Pałac Blanka at Plac Teatralny. The title can be read in at least two ways. The first interpretation suggests that romanticism has been reduced to ashes - that the brutality of war has destroyed all noble human impulses. The second, less obvious interpretation contrasts romanticism with ashes, presenting romanticism as a force capable of surviving the hell of war, offering hope, salvation, and a chance to preserve humanity amid surrounding violence and barbarism.
