About this event
"Saturdays with Wajda at the Kino Polonia exhibition" is a series of guided tours through the National Centre for Film Culture's exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Andrzej Wajda. The exhibition, Poland's largest exposition on the history of Polish cinema, contains numerous threads related to the director: his family's fate, experiences, choices, creative output, and the conditions in which he lived and worked.
Until the end of 2026, the tours take place once a month on Saturdays, in remembrance of the director's birthday, as March 6, 1926 fell on a Saturday. Subsequent meetings mark anniversaries of film premieres and other important events connected with his films, and the entire cycle is part of the celebrations of the centennial of Andrzej Wajda's birth.
The tour on November 21 coincides with the 40th anniversary of the premiere of "A Chronicle of Amorous Accidents" (November 24, 1986), a film considered the most lyrical and sensual in the director's body of work. It is a nostalgic journey into childhood and youth, based on a novel and screenplay by Tadeusz Konwicki. The writer appeared in the film, and like Wajda, was born exactly 100 years ago (June 22, 1926).
The cycle also includes other planned themes:
- May 23 - "Ashes and Diamonds" based on Jerzy Andrzejewski's novel, whose action begins on Saturday, May 5, 1945
- June 13 - "The Promised Land", the director's most Łódź-centric film, repeatedly ranked among the greatest Polish films of all time, Oscar-nominated and awarded throughout Poland and worldwide; the meeting takes place nearly 52 years after filming ended on June 8, 1974
- July 11 - "Man of Iron", which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes on May 28, 1981, the first in Polish cinema history; the premiere took place 45 years ago on July 27, 1981
- August 15 - "A Transposed Man", a television science fiction comedy based on a screenplay by Stanisław Lem, with a premiere on August 17, 1968, awarded a special medal at a festival
