SILENT CINEMA THE LODGER

Alfred Hitchcock's "The Lodger" from 1927 will be shown as a silent film screening with live music. The Łódź-based band The Washing Machine will perform original music for the film. The film features a mysterious lodger, a series of unexplained murders, and an atmosphere of constant suspicion. Despite nearly a century passing, the film still captivates audiences with suspense. The action takes place in London. Young, blonde women fall victim to a killer known as "The Avenger." The family of Daisy, a young model, rents a room to a stranger whose strange behavior raises increasing mistrust. Is the lodger the sought-after murderer, or do appearances lead on a false trail? "The Lodger" is one of the most important films from Hitchcock's early period. It contains motifs characteristic of the director: uncertainty, suspicion, and the story of a man caught up in events whose significance cannot be immediately recognized. The expressionist style and suggestive imagery make the film tell an emotionally charged story without dialogue. The Washing Machine is a Łódź band specializing in original musical interpretations of classic silent films. The musicians are not merely background accompaniment. Their compositions build atmosphere, emphasize plot turns, and give the nearly century-old production new energy. The screening is addressed to both lovers of classic cinema and those who want to discover silent film anew.
