In the 19th century, Łódź transformed from a small settlement into a major textile industry center. Its geographical location and turbulent history positioned the city at the boundary between 'Eastern' and 'Western' civilizations, allowing it to draw from both realities. The world arrived in Łódź by train, came on film reels, and sometimes entered in military march. Łódź residents, many times over, brought fame to our city beyond the country's borders. Their names are still remembered and spoken with respect and admiration. What mark did Eastern and Western cultures leave in Łódź's history? What made us renowned in Europe?
