About this event
Daylilies originate from China, where they have been cultivated for thousands of years. The Latin name Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words hemera meaning "day" and kallos meaning "beauty" – literally "beauty of one day." Individual daylily flowers bloom for only a single day. However, since there are many flowers on each stem and they do not bloom simultaneously, they flower and delight with their beauty for an extended period. Today, over 70,000 registered varieties of these beautiful perennials exist – and new ones are constantly being created. In our climate, daylilies bloom from late June to early August, with the majority of varieties flowering in July. The collection primarily features varieties of garden daylily Hemerocallis x hybrida.
