Book lovers will find several places worth visiting in Łódź: antiquarian bookshops with a long history, family-run bookshops and branches of large chains. Some old addresses have disappeared from the city map, so the list below covers places that are checked and still open.
1. Book się rodzi - ul. Piotrkowska 37
A comics antiquarian bookshop run by Jarosław Józefacki, one of the most recognisable addresses on Piotrkowska street. Besides comics, you can find old literature, vinyl records and VHS tapes here, and a second branch, focused purely on books, operates at number 108. The shop has for years struggled with the cost of renting premises on the city's main street, so it is worth visiting and supporting it with a purchase.

2. Silva Rerum - ul. Piotrkowska 147
A bookshop and antiquarian bookshop in one: you can buy books here (fiction, foreign-language titles, school and academic textbooks), but also sell your own collection. Open Monday to Friday 10am-6pm, Saturdays until 2pm.
3. Matras at Manufaktura - ul. Drewnowska 58
A branch of the nationwide bookshop chain inside Manufaktura, with current releases, textbooks, maps, educational games and language-learning materials. Another branch operates at Galeria Łódzka on al. Piłsudskiego.
4. Księgarnia E. Stompel - ul. Piotrkowska 11
A family-run bookshop that has operated in the same spot since 1991. It stocks fiction, art albums, English-language books and dictionaries, as well as sheet music and classical music recordings. Open on weekdays until 6pm, Saturdays until 3pm.
5. Księgarnia Odkrywcy - ul. Narutowicza 46
A history and militaria bookshop, set up together with the monthly magazine "Odkrywca". It stocks books on history, exploration, monuments and weapons, both new releases and harder-to-find titles. Open Monday to Friday until 6pm, Saturdays until 3pm.
