A sports and recreation park covering 23.5 hectares, laid out in 1915 on the site of the former Łódź Forest, with pitches, tennis courts and a 1928 pond.
Park 3 Maja stretches across Stary Widzew, between Kopcińskiego, Małachowskiego and Niciarnianą streets, on the site of the former Puszcza Łódzka [Łódź Forest]. It covers 23.5 hectares and has a sports and recreation character, with preserved forest fragments, walking paths and a playground.
The park was created in 1915 according to a design by engineer I. Kołaczkowski, on an area previously covered by forest known as Puszcza Łódzka. It borders Baden-Powell Park to the east, and a railway line connecting Łódź Fabryczna to Koluszki to the south.
The entire park was entered in the heritage register on 6 June 2014. Two trees growing in it have the status of natural monuments. In 1928 a pond was dug, in which water lilies grow, with walking paths around it.
The park contains four football pitches with different surfaces: natural grass, artificial and hybrid turf, as well as tennis courts, a running track and a beach volleyball court. A sports hall operated by the Centre for Sports and Recreation Activities is located here, and the Youth Sports Club Łodzianka has its headquarters here. Women's basketball matches for Widzewa Łódź are played in the hall.
The park has a road traffic park where children learn road safety rules. The Jordan garden that previously operated here was closed in the early nineties, and other forms of recreation now function in its place.
As a public green space, the park is accessible around the clock. Only the sports hall operated by the Centre for Sports and Recreation Activities has its own opening hours, so when planning training on site it is worth checking these directly at the facility. The park area, including the pond and tree stand, is managed by the Municipal Green Space Management in Łódź.
