This branch of the Municipal Culture Zone on the Mikołaj Rej estate has run music, dance and art classes for children, teens and seniors since 1958.
Centrum Edukacji Kulturowej Na Żubardzkiej is a branch of the Municipal Culture Zone in Łódź offering classes in music, dance, visual arts, photography and languages for children, young people and seniors. The institution organises theatre performances, concerts, exhibitions and hosts annual artistic events in the Mikołaja Reja housing estate in the Bałuty district.
The institution was established in 1958 as the District House of Culture in Bałuty, a branch of the Łódź House of Culture. In 1963 it was moved to its current location at ul. Żubardzkiej 3, where it operated under the name Bałuty Cultural Centre, changed in the 1990s. From 1 November 2021 it was transformed into a branch of the Municipal Culture Zone in Łódź and took its current name, the Cultural Education Centre on Żubardzkiej, while expanding the scope of its educational activities.
The Centre carries out educational programmes for all age groups, offering classes in music, dance, visual arts, photography and film, as well as foreign language courses. The facility maintains access to various types of classes adapted to the level of advancement of participants. Alongside systematic teaching, the institution organises artistic events, including the Henryk Ryl Pre-School Theatre Festival and the Bałuty Recitation Meetings, which attract participants from across the district and surrounding areas.
The Centre is located on the first floor of a commercial and service building in the housing estate, colloquially known as the Kwadrat. The facility has a multi-purpose internal stage, the Ż gallery for organising exhibitions, and an open space in the external plaza where concerts and outdoor events are held, particularly during the spring and summer season.
The Cultural Education Centre is an important hub for social activation and artistic education in the Bałuty district. As a branch of the Municipal Culture Zone, the institution cooperates with other cultural venues in Łódź and supports local initiatives, creating space for the development of artistic talents and resident integration. Close cooperation with nurseries and schools means that many children participate in classes from their earliest years, and the tradition of activity dating back to 1958 makes this place an important reference point for generations of Łódź residents connected with culture and art.
