Bombonierka Ice Rink named after Maria Olszewska-Lelonkiewicz

Bombonierka is a municipal ice rink on Stefanowskiego Street 28 in Stare Polesie, and not a swimming pool. The facility is run by the Municipal Centre for Sport and Recreation in Łódź and bears the full name Ice Rink "Bombonierka" named after Maria Olszewska-Lelonkiewicz. It does not belong to Łódź University of Technology, although it is sometimes confused with it due to its proximity to university buildings.

Ice rink, not swimming pool

At Stefanowskiego 28 there is an ice sheet with facilities, a rental shop and a skating area for the public. The university swimming pool is at a separate address and is a separate facility, namely Zatoka Sportu Politechniki Łódzkiej with a fifty-metre pool. Those looking for water will find themselves at a different address.

Namesake and sport on the ice

The ice rink has borne the name of Maria Olszewska-Lelonkiewicz since 10 March 2017. The namesake was a long-time coach of Polish figure skaters and years ago actively participated in the creation of the facility. On 15 March 2018, a memorial was unveiled at the ice rink with her original dance skates. During its initial period of operation, the facility was one of the few in Poland dedicated exclusively to figure skaters.

Today, national-level figure skating competitions, training for skaters and hockey players, and hockey matches and tournaments are held here. Recreation skating enthusiasts have access to public skating areas during set times.

What you will find on site

In addition to the ice sheet, there is a skate rental and sharpening service, and balance-assist devices are available for beginners. Next to the ice rink there is a multipurpose hall with a view of the ice sheet, available for rent, though its availability is sometimes temporarily suspended. Recent changes

In recent seasons, the facility has undergone several modernisations. A new Zamboni 612 Electrics ice maintenance machine has been installed, the ventilation and air conditioning unit has been replaced, and outdated lighting has been replaced with over one hundred and seventy energy-efficient LED fittings, which has improved conditions for evening skating and training.
