Garden of Dialogue

Parkowa 2, Rawa Mazowiecka
About Garden of Dialogue

A garden by a restored parish complex, opened in 2022, combining a fifteen-station Way of the Cross of the Polish Nation with a playground and recreation areas.

The Garden of Dialogue in Rawa Mazowiecka is a spiritual and recreational garden adjoining a revitalised ensemble of Baroque buildings belonging to the Parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Opened in 2022, it combines a Way of the Cross drawing on Polish history with prayer spaces and recreational infrastructure for residents.

How the garden came about

The Garden of Dialogue was created in 2022 at the parish church complex as part of its revitalisation. The project was realised through collaboration between the City of Rawa Mazowiecka and the parish, which today jointly manage the site. The investment was co-financed by the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Łódź and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The parish building ensemble itself, adjoining the garden, is Baroque in character and underwent revitalisation prior to the landscaping of the grounds, so the garden forms part of a larger programme of renewal of this place, not a separate, ad hoc investment.

Way of the Cross of the Polish Nation

The central element of the garden is a Way of the Cross called the Way of the Cross of the Polish Nation. It comprises 15 chapels in which scenes of Christ's Passion are interwoven with events from Polish history. This approach sets this garden apart from typical Ways of the Cross at churches, as it guides visitors in parallel through both religious and national themes. The fifteen stations are distributed across the garden grounds in such a way that walking between them combines prayer with movement in the open air, which distinguishes this place from Ways of the Cross arranged solely within a church interior.

Circle of Peace and other prayer spaces

Alongside the Way of the Cross in the garden stands the Circle of Peace, a place of spiritual invocation for peace, inspired by a rosary panel at one of the temples in Warsaw. There is also a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes on the site, as well as a Fatima chapel, which makes the garden a place centred around several Marian and Passion traditions at once.

Recreational infrastructure

The garden is not solely a place of prayer. A display and rest pavilion, an exhibition and storage building, a stage, a children's playground, a sports pitch, a barbecue area and a pond with pavilion stand on the grounds. Visitors can also use multimedia benches with historical recordings, which complement the narrative of the Way of the Cross. This arrangement, combining a stage, sports pitch and playground with chapels and prayer spaces, means the garden is visited both by pilgrims seeking a spiritual place and families from Rawa Mazowiecka seeking ordinary space for recreation.
