About Fajta and Kałkusiński Square in Radomsko

A square in central Radomsko, next to the public library, has borne the names of composer Henryk Fajt and poet Czesław Kałkusiński since 2012, commemorated by a 2014 plaque.

Fajta and Kałkusiński Square is located in the centre of Radomsko, between ulica Gabriela Narutowicza and ulica Berka Joselewicza, next to the City Public Library. The square was named in 2012 at the request of local civic organisations, in honour of two figures connected with the city's culture: composer Henryk Fajt and poet Czesław Kałkusiński.

Patrons of the square

Henryk Fajt was a composer and pedagogue who worked in Radomsko. Czesław Kałkusiński wrote poetry that served Fajt as texts for musical compositions, so both patrons are linked creatively, not merely by a shared place of commemoration.

Memorial plaque

In 2014, two years after the square was named after its patrons, a memorial plaque dedicated to both figures was erected. It explains to passersby who the people were whose names this small urban space bears.

The square as part of Knowledge Park

The place is an element of a broader initiative to revitalise Radomsko's centre, known as Knowledge Park. It assumes the preservation of existing greenery and the creation of paths serving residents' artistic expression, alongside the square's recreational function.

Surroundings

The square is adjacent to Radomsko City Public Library, making it a natural resting place for readers. Nearby, also in the city centre, is Marian Nitecki Square, another green space commemorating a local figure.
