About Grądy nad Lindą Nature Reserve

This reserve protects a stretch of the Linda river with natural oak-hornbeam and riverine forest, and a two-kilometre trail with seven stops follows its bends.

Grądy nad Lindą Nature Reserve protects a section of the Linda river, its tributaries and sources together with natural oak and floodplain forests covering 55.83 hectares. Established on 25 July 1997 by ministerial decision (M.P. of 1997 No. 56, item 536), the reserve is managed by Nadleśnictwo Grotniki [State Forests], and has become one of the important protected areas for preserving biodiversity in the Łódź region.

Protected ecosystems and flora

The reserve encompasses a section of the Linda river, its right-bank tributary and sources, as well as natural forest communities. Forests associated with oak dominate, and along the river stretch floodplain forests, specifically ash and alder woodland growing in a narrow strip above the water. The main tree species are pine, oak, alder, birch, sycamore maple, hornbeam and lime. This rich species composition makes the reserve a diverse habitat for many organisms, from soil microfauna to breeding birds and mammals.

Educational path and accessibility for visitors

A designated educational trail approximately 2 km long comprises seven stops distributed around the meandering Linda. The route passes through different forest types – oak forest, floodplain forest and peatland – showcasing the reserve's abundant flora and fauna. A car park is located at the end of the educational trail, and the trail itself begins at the forest edge on the road from Lućmierz to Krzemień. The reserve is accessible to visitors and ideal for combining a forest walk with nature education, particularly for families interested in nature and nature conservation.

Protection and management plan

The reserve is subject to formal nature protection regulations. A protection plan from 2013, amended in 2015, is in force and sets out rules for land use and conservation activities. The reserve is located near Dąbrowa Grotnicka Nature Reserve, forming a larger area of ecological value for the entire region.
