A district park in Widzew with a pond on the Jasień stream, a fenced playground, an outdoor gym and a basketball court, but no food outlets.
Park nad Jasieniem lies on Widzew, above a pond formed on this small river, between Śmigłego-Rydza, Zbiorcza and Tymienieckiego streets. It is a neighbourhood park with a playground, sports courts and a fitness zone, established in the 1960s on land that previously belonged to one of Łódź's factory owners.
The land above Jasień passed to the city in 1823, handed over by the Włocławek diocese. Later, in 1870, Karol Scheibler bought the site from Teodor Krusche and incorporated it into his estate. The park in its present form was created only in 1964, on green areas stretching along the river, on the site of a former factory farmstead. Widzew, where the park is located, was one of Łódź's industrial districts at that time, so the green areas above Jasień were a response to the need for recreational spaces for residents working in nearby factories.
The park was expanded in stages. In 1998 an enclosed playground for children was built. Five years later, in 2003, five outdoor fitness equipment machines were installed, and soon after a basketball court was added. This means the park today serves both families with small children and those looking for a place to exercise in the open air.
The park covers around 13 to 14.5 hectares, depending on how the site boundaries are calculated - in either case a substantial area of green space for a neighbourhood park. It is currently managed by the City Green Management Office in Łódź.
