A former manor park in Łask, shaped since the eighteenth century and now listed as a historic monument, with a birch tree around 250 years old.
Municipal Park of the Łaski Family in central Łask is a former manor park, established in the 18th century on the grounds of a noble estate. Today it is a publicly accessible green space in the city, with tree cover spanning several decades and several natural monuments.
The oldest plantings in the park date from the period when the Łask lands belonged to the Załuski family. The current layout of paths and greenery was formed later, in the years 1858-1895, when the estate was managed by the Kręski family. From the same period comes an artificial mound in the park, whose exact purpose, whether for views or recreation, is not definitively established. In the interwar period or during the Second World War, the Objazdowa [bypass] road was built across the site, dividing the former manor complex from the residential buildings of the city. In the 1950s, the Pisia [river] flowing through the park was canalised as part of flood defence work.
The park covers approximately 8 hectares. In one source there is also a value of 24.1 acres, which on conversion gives approximately 9.75 hectares. The difference between the two values is small and falls within the typical margin of error when rounding units of area from acres to hectares, so it can be accepted that both versions describe practically the same area. Trees and shrubs of around 50 species grow here, including small-leaved limes, maples, firs and spruces. Ten trees have the status of natural monuments, including old common birches, black alders and small-leaved limes. The oldest tree in the park is a common birch with a circumference of 594 centimetres, measured in 2013, estimated at around 250 years old.
The park is entered in the heritage register under number 386 from 25 June 1990. In 1992, archaeological research was conducted on its site, during which 6596 artefacts were found.
