About Plac Wolności

Plac Wolności is a renovated public space in central Bełchatów, ideal for spending time outdoors. You will find green areas, a place for walks and relaxation.

Plac Wolności is the main public space in central Bełchatów, serving residents as a place for meetings, rest and events. It is managed by the city authority of Bełchatów.

Renovation and cost

The renovation of the square lasted 10 months and cost over 7.6 million zloty. Works divided the space into three functional areas: patriotic, central and recreational, so that one space combined memorial, representative and recreational functions for different groups of residents.

Patriotic section

In this part of the square stands a monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski, commemorating the history of independence. This is where the city organises ceremonies connected with state holidays and historical anniversaries.

Central section

The central part houses a fountain, stone benches, a pergola, a stage and café gardens. This is where the city organises cultural, sports and health events, and residents come to rest by the water or sit in one of the café gardens. The stage allows concerts and performances to be held without the need to build temporary infrastructure. Similar city fountains also operate at Plac Narutowicza and in Park im. Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego, so Bełchatów has several similar rest points with water spread across the whole city.

Recreational section

The third part of the square is a children's playground, equipped with percussion instruments, cymbals, bells and a piano bench, creating an interactive musical installation. This allows the youngest to play on standard equipment and additionally experiment with sound, which distinguishes this playground from typical residential playgrounds in the city.

The square in everyday city life

Apart from major events organised by the city, the square functions daily as a place for short walks, meetings over coffee in the café gardens and passing between city centre streets. The open space, accessible round the clock, means that residents use it regardless of whether a cultural, sports or health event is taking place there.
