A museum of comic art and video games in the EC1 complex, opened in 2023, holding Poland's largest collection devoted to the history of Polish comics.
Centrum Komiksu i Narracji Interaktywnej (CKINI) is a museum of comic art and computer games located in the EC1 Łódź - Miasto Kultury [City of Culture] complex. The institution opened on 7 October 2023 and contains Poland's largest and most modern collection dedicated to Polish comic art, the history of computer games and interactive narrative.
The previous institution known as Łódzkie Centrum Komiksu [Łódź Comics Centre] operated under the old name and address (Więckowskiego 3) in 2013-2016. The new, expanded facility, opened in the EC1 complex, is a natural continuation and development of that idea, but with a new identity and richer programme focused on combining comic art, games and interactive forms of storytelling.
Centrum Komiksu i Narracji Interaktywnej is located in the modernist EC1 complex at ul. Targowa 1/3 (entrance from ul. Sass-Zdort), just a few hundred metres from Łódź Fabryczna station. The EC1 complex is an ambitious project of the City of Łódź, bringing together cultural and educational institutions in one modern interior. The location of the facility makes it easily accessible for tourists arriving by train and for city residents.
The museum presents a rich collection dedicated to the history of Polish comics - from the pre-war textopism era through the golden age of comics in the Polish People's Republic to contemporary works by independent artists. In addition to original panels and permanent collection items, the institution organises thematic exhibitions, meetings with creators, film screenings and workshops for various age groups. The history of computer games is represented through retro equipment, cult games and interactive installations showing the evolution of the medium from Pong and Atari to contemporary productions.
CKINI functions as a museum and centre for education and promotion of comic art and games as a serious artistic medium. The institution offers creative workshops for children and adults, including drawing classes, screenwriting and game design. Regular meetings with Polish and international creators give the public the opportunity for direct dialogue with artists.
Centrum Komiksu is part of the larger cultural ecosystem of EC1, which neighbours Łódź Fabryczna station and Moniuszki Park. The EC1 complex is a transformation of a historic factory into a centre of cultural activity, revitalising this part of the city and attracting both local audiences and tourists interested in a modern narrative about art and technology.
