About Tężnia Radomszczańska in Park na Wymysłówku

An estate park opened in 2019 by the Wymysłówek reservoir, with a playground and a wooden salt brine tower built from hawthorn branches, open seasonally from April to October.

Park na Wymysłówku at ulica Chabrowa 24 in Radomsko is an estate park opened in October 2019, on the grounds of the former Wspólnota Wymysłówek [community], transferred to the city with recreation by the nearby water reservoir in mind. Its distinctive feature is Tężnia Radomszczańska, a wooden salt brine inhalatorium standing next to the playground, rarely found in parks of this scale.

How this area came about

The land for the park came from Wspólnota Wymysłówek, which transferred it to the city of Radomsko. Thanks to this, the authorities were able to develop the area around the reservoir, previously unused for recreation. The park was designed by Paulina Ślęzak-Mielczarek and opened in 2019 as the first phase of changes in this part of the city. The layout of the terrain is open, with paths leading towards the water reservoir on Wymysłówku, which sets it apart from typical, fenced squares in central Radomsko.

The salt brine tower: how it works

The tężnia is built from softwood and hawthorn branches. Electric pumps distribute brine across it, which trickles down the branches in a thin layer and evaporates, releasing into the air water droplets saturated with minerals: iodine, bromine, magnesium, sodium, potassium and iron. People standing near the tężnia inhale this air, much like at seaside or spa resorts with salt brine inhalatoriums. Local tourist information states that spending one or two hours at the tężnia in temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius produces an effect comparable to several days by the sea; this is a claim from promotional materials rather than a research finding, and should be treated with caution.

Where the tężnia came from

The facility was created as a project from the first edition of Radomsko's participatory budget: residents proposed building an inhalatorium as a health initiative for the Wymysłówek estate, and the city implemented it within the already existing sports and recreation park, managed by the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji w Radomsku (Municipal Centre for Sport and Recreation in Radomsko).

Future plans for the reservoir area

The city plans to develop recreational areas around the Wymysłówku reservoir, including elements such as a city beach and catering points. Work in this direction was announced as recently as 2024, and the park on ulica Chabrowa is part of this larger concept for developing the area.
