A riverside sports and recreation area on the Pilica, the site of the city's biggest events, now home to the indoor Arena Lodowa speed skating track opened in 2017.
Tomaszowskie Błonia is a sports and recreation area beside the River Pilica in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, serving for decades as the main leisure destination and venue for major city events. Today it is home to, among other facilities, the Arena Lodowa, one of the few facilities of its kind in Poland.
Before the Second World War, the Tomaszowskie Rowing Society operated a port on the Pilica in this area. During the Polish People's Republic period, the riverside terrain functioned as a leisure centre, and after 1989 it was transformed into a Municipal Centre for Sport and Recreation. Today it is managed by Tomaszowskie Centrum Sportu.
For many years Tomaszowskie Błonia was the arena for the largest recurring city event in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The open, riverside terrain proved well-suited as a venue for gatherings, concerts and city celebrations.
On the site of the former speed skating rink, the Arena Lodowa was built, Poland's first indoor, year-round speed skating rink measuring 400 metres in length. The facility opened on 14 December 2017 at a cost of 50 million Polish zloty, in the presence of President Andrzej Duda. The arena is managed by Tomaszowskie Centrum Sportu, with Pilica Tomaszów Mazowiecki as the host club. Since 2018 the entire Błonia terrain has undergone revitalisation, during which an amphitheatre, team sports pitches and site monitoring were installed.
