Kutno's main park, laid out in 1917 on varied terrain with a pond at its lowest point, featuring a rose avenue and an annual Festival of Roses.
Traugutta Park is the main city park in Kutno, established in the interwar period on terrain with varied topography, featuring a pond at its lowest point. It is a place for daily walks by residents and the setting for seasonal city events.
The park was created in 1917 on the initiative of Antoni Troczewski, an honorary citizen of Kutno. The design was executed by Władysław Marciniec, director of municipal gardens in Poznań, which explains the classical layout of paths and grouping of vegetation typical of major city parks of that era. The site covers 4.2 hectares and has distinctly varied elevation, with the pond located in the lowest part. Over 150 species of trees and shrubs grow here, some of them protected as natural monuments. The greenery is more diverse than in an average residential park, which is especially visible in autumn, when leaf colours vary depending on species.
The pond at the lowest point of the park is its central landscape feature. Conservation work on the reservoir is carried out every year, so access to its banks may be limited during certain periods. The site is managed by the Municipal Green Spaces Authority in Kutno. The park also regularly hosts social events organised by the city, including the Picnic Among the Roses and the Rose Festival. The names of these events refer to the rose avenue running through the park, one of the distinctive compositional axes of the layout.
The park's address is ul. Stanisława Żółkiewskiego 4, and its boundary is also formed by Aleję Róż.
Within several dozen kilometres of Kutno, in other towns in the Łódź region, it is worth seeing similar municipal green spaces from a similar period, such as Park Belzacki in Piotrków Trybunalski or Park Sienkiewicza in Łódź. Both were established at a similar time and have the character of a city park with historical credentials.
