Vertical Garden

Reymonta, 97-500 Radomsko, Polska, Radomsko
About Vertical Garden

A vertical garden where nature grows upwards. Ideal for a walk for those who want to see how garden spaces can be designed differently.

Vertical gardens in Radomsko adorn the elevations of two buildings at ulica Reymonta 8 and 9, in the city centre. These are planted walls covered with vegetation, among the first installations of this type in Radomsko and among the larger ones in Poland.

Over two thousand plants on the elevations

Over 2000 plants of various species were planted on both buildings, including garden cranberry, fescue, impatiens, meadow foxtail and hosta. The plants were arranged in a modular system on the walls, creating a dense, green covering visible from street level.

An investment worth over three million zloty

The project cost over 3 million zloty, of which over 900 thousand zloty came from grants and loans from the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Łódź. The gardens were officially opened on Tuesday 30 August 2022, following the completion of assembly work and the first growing season for the plants.

Ecological functions

Green elevations function as natural ecosystems: they lower wall temperatures in summer, retain moisture and rainwater, and provide shelter for birds and insects in the city centre. Such installations also reduce the urban heat island effect, the heating of concrete and asphalt in city centres on hot days.

The first in Radomsko

Local press emphasised at the opening that these are the first vertical gardens in Radomsko and among the larger installations of this kind in Poland. The scale of the project, covering two entire elevations, sets it apart from similar projects in other towns in the region, where green walls typically cover only individual sections of buildings.
