Fourteen-year-old Sun travels to the Sahara to uncover the secret of an ancient legend told by her grandfather. There, she discovers the true story of a boy who disappeared at age two during a massive sandstorm. Abandoned in the desert, he is miraculously saved by a herd of ostriches. He spends the next ten years with them, learning to survive and growing up away from civilization. His best friend and playmate is a fennec—a big-eared desert fox. The boy learns to communicate with animals, and wild nature becomes his home. It's a story about an extraordinary bond that can form even in the most unexpected places.
