Shopping centres of Łódź - much more than just shops

Shopping centres are mostly associated with shopping and services, but in Łódź several of them are also entertainment venues, especially popular at weekends. We checked what the largest Łódź shopping centres offer today.

Nowa Sukcesja

Opened in 2015, Sukcesja on Politechniki Avenue struggled with competition and a high vacancy rate, which eventually led to its closure. On 18 December 2024, after a thorough rebuild, Nowa Sukcesja opened on the same site, near the Łódź University of Technology campus: a shopping centre with more than 100 shops, service points and restaurants. Tenants include a large Biedronka supermarket, drugstores (Rossmann, DM, Hebe) and chain clothing brands. New compared with the original building is the Hopa Lupa entertainment zone covering more than 30,000 square metres, with a trampoline park described as the largest of its kind in Europe, a climbing wall, a go-kart track and a rope park.

Manufaktura

Łódź can also boast Manufaktura, a shopping, service and entertainment complex that is one of the larger venues of its kind in Poland. It was built on the initiative of Cyprian Kosiński, a businessman of Łódź origin living in Switzerland, who brought capital from the Rothschild group into the project. The site chosen for the complex was the former Izrael Poznański textile factory. After five years of planning and almost four years of renovation, the complex opened on 17 May 2006. Its architecture, dominated by post-industrial red-brick buildings, was designed by the London firm Virgile&Stone working with the Lyon-based studio Sud Architectes. Today's Manufaktura is home not only to shops but also cafés, restaurants, a cinema, a bowling alley, an artificial climbing wall and cultural institutions, including a branch of the Museum of Art ms2 and the Factory Museum.

Post-industrial Galeria Łódzka

Galeria Łódzka also deserves attention. Opened on 24 October 2002, its architecture and colours likewise echo the city's post-industrial buildings. Built in an L shape, it has around 45,000 square metres of retail space housing a hypermarket, about 170 shops, restaurants, bars and cafés. In its opening year the centre was recognised by the Association of Polish Architects, and in 2004 it received the European Shopping Centre Award from the International Council of Shopping Centers for its architectural design and integration with the city's infrastructure.

Port Łódź

Port Łódź at 245 Pabianicka Street, in the south of the city, is the largest shopping centre in the region and is linked to an IKEA store. Beyond shopping, it is worth visiting the Sport Stacja zone outside the building, with Fabryka Wody water attractions for children, a cycling town and minigolf. Inside there is the Port Łódź Junior area, and families can hold children's birthday parties here.

Port Łódź regularly hosts events: the Portowa Giełda Fonograficzna record fair for collectors, Psia Polówka for dog owners, summer jazz concerts and regional produce fairs. The current programme is published on the centre's website and in our events calendar.

Pasaż Łódzki

Pasaż Łódzki at 30 Jana Pawła II Avenue has been open since 2000 and is one of the most convenient centres for everyday shopping on the western side of the city: everything is on a single level and the car park is right by the entrance. Its anchor stores are an Auchan hypermarket and Decathlon, alongside services, a pharmacy, a currency exchange and restaurants. It is a good choice when you need to do a big shop quickly or buy sports gear before a weekend trip.

M1 Łódź

M1 Shopping Centre at 27/29 Brzezińska Street, on national road 72, has more than 70 shops, restaurants and services and a large free car park. It is the M1 car park that hosts concerts and outdoor events, including charity concerts for children, and the centre regularly runs activities for families.

Next to M1 you will also find the longest outdoor karting track in Łódź, 415 metres long, where the Łódź Karting League races on Fridays. You can come for individual laps or organise a race with friends.
