Ice skating is a way to spend free time that works well beyond winter too. For some it's more than entertainment - some people treat it as a sport they devote every spare moment to. Łódź and the surrounding region have no shortage of places to skate, whether just for fun or more seriously. Here are a few of them.

Ice rink at Manufaktura

Thanks to easy access and the charming market square, the ice rink at Manufaktura always draws plenty of interest. It's a seasonal, open-air rink - it usually runs from late November to mid-February, open daily, with an ice surface of over 600 m². Space is fairly limited, so it can get crowded, but it's a good opportunity to head to the shopping centre afterwards - for coffee, the cinema or the theatre. Skates and "penguin" aids for first steps on the ice can be hired on site.

Ice rink "Bombonierka"

The Bombonierka ice rink at ul. Stefanowskiego 28 is part of the Łódź MOSiR sports centre network. Because it's indoors and covered, it can be used all year round - which makes it a favourite venue for professional skaters, but also a good spot for beginners; the rink is large enough to host organised groups too. The facility is named after Maria Olszewska-Lelonkiewicz, a figure skating coach. Its cooling and ventilation system was recently modernised. Retkinia ice rink

Another rink run by Łódź's MOSiR - Retkinia, at ul. Popiełuszki 13B - is also housed indoors and operates year-round. Skating sessions run in set time blocks (several a day, with extra slots at weekends). At both MOSiR rinks, discounts are available to holders of the Large Family Card and the "Młodzi w Łodzi" discount card for students at Łódź universities.
