Neoclassical Bell Tower from 1786

Podrzeczna 17, Łowicz
About Neoclassical Bell Tower from 1786

A brick bell tower by the former Evangelical church in Łowicz, now standing next to an art gallery.

A brick bell tower stands on ulica Podrzeczna in Łowicz, next to the former Evangelical-Augsburg church. Both structures form a single ensemble and can be seen from a distance when walking along this section of the street.

Former church, now gallery

The church on Podrzeczna was built in the late neoclassical style according to a design by Jan Łuczaj, with a distinctive façade adorned with a six-column portico and stucco Eye of Providence. The building served the Evangelical-Augsburg parish until 1945, and is now deconsecrated and houses an art gallery known as Galeria Browarna. The ensemble of church and bell tower was entered in the heritage register in 1967.

The entire ensemble stands a short distance from Stary Rynek [Old Market Square], in an area of Łowicz with dense historic fabric. The bell tower is best viewed together with the façade of the neighbouring building, as they form a coherent, recognisable composition on this street.
