Teatr DOM is a drama stage located in the heart of Łódź on the renowned Piotrkowska street. It is worth visiting to experience contemporary theatrical repertoire in an intimate atmosphere.
Teatr DOM, opened in 2016, is a drama theatre located in a historic tenement building from 1835 on the famous Piotrkowska street in Łódź. It offers performances for various age groups, from comedies and dramas to productions for children.
The tenement building housing Teatr DOM dates from 1835 and is one of many monuments on Piotrkowska. Before 2016, Teatr Lutnia operated in the same building, a long-standing theatre operator on the renowned Łódź street. Teatr Lutnia built up its repertoire and audience among Łódź residents and tourists over many years. After its closure, the building gained a new operator, Teatr DOM.
Teatr DOM began operations in 2016, relatively recently compared to the decades-long tradition of Łódź's theatre institutions. Despite its youth, it quickly established itself in the awareness of Łódź audiences. The founding of Teatr DOM resulted from a desire to create a space for artists wishing to work in a more independent manner, outside large theatre institutions.
The main auditorium of Teatr DOM has a capacity of 372 people, which is a reasonable size for intimate performances and dialogue between stage and audience. The theatre foyer is available for organising conferences, concerts, artistic presentations and dance performances. This functionality makes Teatr DOM serve both as a venue for theatrical performances and as a multifunctional conference room for the local community.
The theatre offers a wide range of performances – from comedies to dramas for adults, as well as productions specially prepared for children. The types of performances are adapted to different age groups, which means Teatr DOM attracts both families with children and adult audiences seeking profound theatrical experiences. The programme is continuously updated, and the performance schedule changes seasonally.
Piotrkowska is the main pedestrian street of Łódź and the cultural heart of the city. Teatr DOM is located in the very centre of this artistic area, near museum institutions, galleries and other theatres. Ulica Piotrkowska 243 is well served by public transport – numerous trams and buses serve this route. Parking is available near the pedestrian street, which makes travelling by car convenient.
