A wooden weaver's house from the late 19th century in traditional timber-frame construction, dismantled and rebuilt in the 1970s, now housing a shop and eatery.
At ulica Świętego Jana 20 in Pabianice stands a wooden weaver's house from the second half of the nineteenth century, one of the last traces of the former weaving settlement Nowe Miasto Pabianice. After years of alterations, it now houses a service and catering establishment.
The building was erected on a rectangular plan as a single-storey house in post and beam construction, typical of weavers' houses in the Łódź region. It is entered in the heritage register under numbers A/47 from 1967 and 66-IV-14 from 1946.
In 1968 the house was dismantled, and between 1969 and 1975 it was reconstructed in its present location. In 1989 the building suffered fire damage, and in 2002 underwent renovation. Since 2003 it has been rented for retail and catering purposes.
During the building's renovation, architects Jarosław Karbowiak and Włodzimierz Kościelny worked to modernise the interior whilst preserving the historic character of the façade. On the outside the house still looks like nineteenth-century weaver housing, although the interior contains a contemporary establishment.
The house stands near the former factory complex Krusche i Ender on ulica Zamkowa and the family home of Maksymilian Kolbe, a point on the trail dedicated to the saint.
