About Kutnowski Dom Kultury

Kutno's main cultural institution, running since 1972, with a 350-seat theatre hall, a digital cinema and workshops for two resident theatre groups.

Kutnowski Dom Kultury at ulica Stanisława Żółkiewskiego 4 in Kutno has operated for over fifty years as the city's main cultural institution. Within its walls are a theatre hall, digital cinema and art workshops, with a programme comprising performances, concerts and workshops for residents.

Opening and early years of operation

Kutnowski Dom Kultury officially opened on 30 April 1972, after three years of construction. Its first director was Kazimierz Jóźwiak, formerly conductor of the Ziemi Kutnowskiej Song and Dance Ensemble, which from the outset gave the institution a profile closely tied to regional music and dance. In its early years, popular artists of the time performed on the KDK stage, as well as theatres from Łódź and Gniezna, and operettas from Poznań and Bydgoszcz, testifying to the importance the city attached to the newly opened facility.

Building infrastructure

The building houses a theatre hall with 350 seats, a rhythm studio, a theatre studio, two conference rooms for 50 and 70 people, exhibition halls and a digital cinema showing films in 2D and 3D technology. This range of spaces allows performances, film screenings, exhibitions and conferences to be organised in one place, enabling KDK to function as both a theatre and cinema as well as a conference centre for the city and region.

Artistic groups at KDK

Two theatre groups operate at the cultural centre. Teatr Od Jutra has existed since 1984 and has won numerous awards at amateur theatre festivals, making it one of the more established groups of its kind in the region. Teatr dziecięcy Puszek has operated since 1979 and thus for even longer, bringing together the youngest participants in artistic activities and introducing successive generations of children to theatre.

The institution's role in the city

Kutnowski Dom Kultury remains under the management of the Kutno City Office as a unit of the public finance sector, ensuring its status as a permanent public cultural institution. It organises concerts, theatre performances, dance shows, exhibitions and art workshops, serving both Kutno residents and those from surrounding towns, for whom it is the main point of access to cultural offerings.
