A 2012 open-air museum by the Uniejów thermal baths, made of relocated village buildings including two windmills, an inn and farm animals.
Zagroda Młynarska in Uniejów is a working open-air museum made up of relocated historic rural buildings from the Łódź region. The complex combines museum, catering and hotel functions and is part of the offer of Termy Uniejów, a municipal company operating a spa complex in the city.
The museum was established in 2012 from houses and outbuildings relocated from several villages in Łódź Voivodeship. The site received a manor house from Nagórki and two windmills - one from Chorzepina, which now serves an accommodation function, and another from Zbylczyc, operating as a working mill-exhibition. The ensemble is completed by an agricultural building relocated from Uniejów itself and a nineteenth-century cottage from the village of Skotniki, which has been converted into an inn. The idea of the smallholding is to show in one place what rural buildings in the region looked like before some of them disappeared from the landscape. A separate building on the same street is Wiatrak "Koźlak", one of the characteristic features of this part of Uniejów.
The smallholding is home to farm animals - sheep, horses and poultry - and guests can take a horse-drawn carriage ride around the area. In the former cottage from Skotniki, an inn operates serving traditional regional cuisine, and the working windmill from Zbylczyc demonstrates how grain was once milled into flour. The entire arrangement of buildings is meant to evoke a former village from the Łódź region, relocated to one place and complemented with tourist functions.
The facility is managed by Termy Uniejów, within which the smallholding operates as an additional attraction to a spa stay, alongside the thermal baths and hotel complex at the spa. In 2023-2024, Uniejów municipality, the property owner, announced an unrestricted written tender for the sale of the plot with the smallholding buildings. According to the official Termy Uniejów website, the facility continues to operate in its current form, though there is no confirmation whether the tender resulted in a change of ownership - it is worth checking directly before booking accommodation in the windmill.
