This 1974 monument stands in Park Wolności, exactly where the 15th Infantry Regiment began defending Pabianice against the German advance on 7 September 1939.
The Monument to the Soldiers of the 15th Infantry Regiment Wolves stands in Park Wolności in Pabianice, at ulica Łaskiej 114. It commemorates the regiment, which defended the city against German attack in September 1939.
The 15th Infantry Regiment, known by the nickname Wolves as a symbol of steadfastness and fighting spirit, began the defence of Pabianice in the morning of 7 September 1939, right in Park Wolności. This was one stage in a longer combat route taken by the regiment, which passed from Wieluń through the areas around Łódź, Brwinów and Modlin. The fighting for the city constitutes one of the local episodes of the September campaign, commemorated today among other ways by this monument.
The monument was unveiled in September 1974, several decades after the events described, as a lasting commemoration of the regiment's soldiers. It stands in Park Wolności, the very place where the first fighting for the city took place in 1939, which gives the location added historical significance.
