Bełchatów's city cultural centre has operated since 1972, with its 2010-2011 building housing two theatre and concert halls plus a cinema in one complex.
Miejskie Centrum Kultury at plac Gabriela Narutowicza 1a is the main cultural venue in Bełchatów, run as an organisational unit of the city. The institution's history dates back to 1972, and the current main building was constructed in 2010–2011, replacing earlier infrastructure and bringing together the majority of the city's cultural events in one place.
The Centre is responsible for organising cultural life in Bełchatów and activating the local community, operating as an organisational unit of the city rather than an independent commercial institution. Its programme includes film screenings, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, competitions and theatrical performances.
The main complex at plac Narutowicza spans two buildings linked functionally, housing three theatre and concert halls as well as a cinema. This layout allows several events to run in parallel, from film screenings to large concerts and performances, without the need to reserve one shared room for each event. By separating functions across two buildings, the centre can simultaneously show a film in the cinema and conduct a rehearsal or event in a theatre and concert hall.
Beyond the main building, MCK runs a venue called Giganty Mocy, a modern interactive exhibition created with support from Polska Grupa Energetyczna (Polish Energy Group), and a branch in the Grocholice district. This means the centre's programme reaches different parts of the city, including areas beyond its centre, and residents of districts away from plac Narutowicza also have access to classes and events organised by MCK.
MCK collaborates with the Regional Museum in Bełchatów and the Municipal and District Public Library, resulting in joint events and exhibitions organised in the city.
Beyond organising ready-made events, MCK offers artists scholarships that allow them to develop their own creative work related to Bełchatów. Competitions and workshops run by the centre are aimed at both children and young people as well as adult residents seeking regular cultural activities in the city.
