Museum of Paper and Print

The Museum of Paper and Print is a facility devoted to papermaking, bookbinding and printing crafts, with workshops where visitors can make a sheet of handmade paper themselves. From July 2024, the museum has been located in the Ogrody Geyera complex in Łódź, following a move from its previous home in the Skansen Łódzkiej Architektury Drewnianej [Open Air Museum of Wooden Architecture].

Change of address after years in the Skansen

Until 2024, the museum's collections were housed in the House of the Papermaker on the grounds of the Skansen Łódzkiej Architektury Drewnianej, at the former address Piotrkowska 282, where they operated from January 2013. In summer 2024, the museum moved to a post-industrial building in the Ogrody Geyera complex. The exact number of the new premises has not yet been confirmed in available sources, so it is worth checking the address directly with the manager before visiting. It is also worth not confusing the Museum of Paper and Print with the Skansen Łódzkiej Architektury Drewnianej, which remains a separate department of the Central Museum of Textiles and continues to operate in its current location.

Papermaking and bookbinding workshops

The museum operates a bookbinding workshop, a typography workshop and a papermaking workshop, supplemented by a gallery and library. Visitors can take part in papermaking workshops, learning about traditional and contemporary papermaking techniques. This is an opportunity to see the process of papermaking step by step, rather than viewing only finished exhibits behind glass.

Ocalić od Zapomnienia Foundation

The museum has been operating since 2000. It is run by the Ocalić od Zapomnienia Foundation [Save from Oblivion], established in 2005 and dedicated to protecting papermaking and printing crafts from being forgotten. From the start, the facility has combined exhibition functions with educational functions, focusing on direct contact between visitors and the tools and materials of traditional craftsmanship.

Surroundings

The new home in Ogrody Geyera is located in the central part of Łódź, close to other places associated with the city's industrial heritage, including the Central Museum of Textiles. Nearby, on Piotrkowska Street, you will also find the Aleja Gwiazd [Avenue of Stars] with stars dedicated to creators of Polish cinema.
