A late-classicist manor house from 1845, once the Hoffmeister family's estate, now home to a community cultural centre with workshops, rehearsal rooms and a first-degree music school.
The manor house at Targowa 21 in Uniejów is a late classicist building from the 19th century, now the seat of the Municipal-District Cultural Centre. It stands apart from the main route past the castle of the archbishops of Gniezno, but its history reaches back to a similar era as the rest of the city's historic centre.
The building was erected around the middle of the 19th century as a residence of the Hoffmeister family, who were related to the Toll family, former administrators of Uniejów castle. The year of construction, 1845, is recorded on the building's façade, allowing the manor to be dated more precisely than most of the surrounding buildings from that period.
After the Second World War, the building housed a health centre, and later became the headquarters of the Municipal Agricultural Mutual Aid Cooperative. Only a further change of use transformed the former manor house into a place of cultural meetings, as it is today.
The manor contains workshops, rehearsal halls for musical ensembles and offices, as well as meeting spaces for associations and the University of the Third Age. The building is also home to a first-level music school, so alongside exhibitions and meetings, you can hear students practising.
The manor won the Our Monument competition, held among heritage sites in Łódź Voivodeship by the Most the Most Foundation and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego. The municipality plans to renovate the building, including the roof, floors, masonry work, windows and doors, interior finishing and the façade. After the work, the centre hopes to enlarge the ground floor hall and create space for musical rehearsals and University of the Third Age activities.
