A classicist gateway with guardhouses from 1770-1780, the main entrance to Skierniewice's Park Miejski and once the approach to the Primate's residence.
Brama Parkowa is a neoclassical entrance gate with guardhouses, leading to the former palace and park complex of the Polish Primates in Skierniewice. Today it serves as the main entrance to Municipal Park from Sienkiewicza Street.
The gate was erected in the years 1770–1780 with funding from Archbishop Antoni Kazimierz Ostrowski. The design is attributed to architect Efraim Szreger, who also designed the Church of Saint James in Skierniewice. Previously, in the same location there stood a palace and park complex that served as the summer residence of the Polish Primates.
The gate takes the form of an arched passage closed with a semicircular vault, set on the axis of the former complex. On both sides of the passage stand side wings with columned porticoes, which formerly housed guardhouses that guarded access to the residence grounds.
Two commemorative plaques are mounted on the gate: one dedicated to the five-hundredth anniversary of the granting of city rights to Skierniewice, the other set into the wall during the interwar period. The building underwent restoration funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, thanks to which it regained its colouring close to the original.
Beyond the gate extends a park surrounding the former Primate's Palace.
A walk through the park and former residence can continue towards the market square.
By the market square stands the town hall, another monument in the centre of Skierniewice.
