The cemetery of the St Joseph parish in Ruda Pabianicka, founded in 1917, with a monument to Kościuszko and Głowacki erected the same year.
The cemetery of the parish of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is located at ulica Mierzejowa 1, in the Ruda Pabianicka estate in the Górna district. This is not the same cemetery as the Old Cemetery at Ogrodowa - burial formalities are handled separately at the parish office at ulica Farnej 12.
The parish purchased the land for the cemetery on 24 August 1917 from Karl and Maria Freitag. Ruda Pabianicka was then an independent settlement with its own local government, church and school, with traditions dating back to the 16th century, and was only later absorbed by Łódź.
In the cemetery stands a stone obelisk crowned with a cross, erected in 1917 and dedicated to Tadeusz Kościuszko and Bartosz Głowacki. The inscription on the monument reads: "1817 15/X 1917 To the Immortal Leader of the Nation Tadeusz Kościuszko and Bartosz Głowacki the Valiant Peasant Defender of the Homeland Fellow Countrymen".
Among those buried are Józef Szostak, a uhlan decorated with the Virtuti Militari Order, Władysław Zdzisław Gołaszewski, a resistance movement activist, and architect Witold Millo. The cemetery also has sections for Bernardine sisters and members of the Kiorhassan family.
The cemetery itself is physically located at ulica Mierzejowa 1. The address Farna 12, which appears in some registers as the address of this place, actually refers to the parish office - that is where burial matters and cemetery formalities are handled, not on site at the gate.
