Poland's only film-themed hotel, housed in a historic 1891 tenement where the Krzemiński brothers opened the country's first permanent cinema in 1899; its 42 apartments are each inspired by a different film.
Hotel Stare Kino - Cinema Residence at ul. Piotrkowska 120 is the only hotel in Poland with a film theme. It is housed in a listed tenement building from 1891, designed by Gustaw Landau-Gutenteger. Before that, the plot changed owners from 1832 - among them baker Karol Trautmann and lawyer Jan Szostkowski - until the present three-storey tenement was erected by Szmul Bornstein in 1890. The history of the building dates back to 1899, when the Krzeminski brothers established Poland's first permanent cinema in its courtyard - the Gabinet Iluzji.
In the courtyard of the property, in the building that is now the hotel, brothers Władysław and Antoni Krzeminski established Poland's first permanent cinema in 1899, called Gabinet Iluzji. This place thus holds significance in world cinema history and is the reason for the unique character of today's hotel.
The modern hotel opened in early autumn 2013, initially with 22 film-themed apartments. Today it has 42 apartments, each with a different film theme. The facility is owned by RR Office, and the Stare Kino - Cinema Residence brand is managed by the company.
Each room is inspired by scenes from films. There are references to Polish films made in Łódź - Ziemia Obiecana, Stawka Większa Niż Życie and Kingsajz - as well as classics of world cinema: The Godfather, The Pink Panther, Titanic and The Strawberry Widow. The choice of films for each room is part of the manager's strategy to build a film character for each apartment.
The hotel has three conference rooms with areas of 40, 65 and 80 square metres, adapted to business needs. On the premises there is also the Stare Kino restaurant seating around 50 people, serving meals to hotel guests and outside visitors.
