A cinema operating since 1926, originally with one 700-seat auditorium, today with two smaller screening rooms in the centre of Pabianice.
Kino Teatr TOMI operates in the centre of Pabianice at ulica Gdańska 4, in a building that has served residents as a film screening venue for nearly a hundred years. It is a traditional cinema with two auditoriums, with a programme consisting mainly of current cinema releases and special screenings.
The cinema opened at Easter 1926 as Kinematograf Miejski [Municipal Cinema] and has continuously served the residents of Pabianice ever since. Originally it had one large auditorium with 700 seats, which was a significant number for a city the size of Pabianice. The name TOMI appeared later and the cinema has operated under it ever since, maintaining continuity of operation despite the ownership and technological changes the film industry has undergone over ninety years.
The cinema currently has two projection auditoriums, smaller than the original 1926 hall but equipped with more modern image projection and sound reproduction equipment. Such a division allows two different titles to be shown simultaneously, which increases the number of screenings available during the day. The cinema is not limited to one genre; the programme includes productions for different age groups.
The programme changes every Wednesday, usually in the afternoon, when new titles distributed by film studios are released to the network. Tickets can be purchased both online and directly at the cinema box office, which is convenient for people planning a spontaneous visit. Exact ticket prices and the current programme are best checked directly before your visit, as they change from week to week.
The location on ulica Gdańska places the cinema in the very heart of Pabianice, within walking distance from most surrounding streets and squares. For residents, this means that an evening trip to the cinema does not require travelling to the city outskirts, as is often the case with multiplexes built near shopping centres on the periphery.
Near the cinema is Centrum Handlowe Tkalnia [Tkalnia Shopping Centre], so a visit to the cinema can easily be combined with shopping or a walk around the site of the former factory.
