Władysław Broniewski District Public Library in Sieradz

The Władysław Broniewski District Public Library in Sieradz operates at ul. Żwirki i Wigury 4 and serves readers from across Sieradz District. It is a separate institution from the Municipal Public Library in Sieradz, which serves the city alone and operates under a different governing body.

History of the institution

The library began operations on 1 May 1946. In July 1964 it moved to the building at ul. Żwirki i Wigury 4, where it remains today, and that same year it was named after Władysław Broniewski. The institution acquired the status of district library on 1 January 1999, following changes to the country's administrative divisions.

Development and building renovation

The library began building its network of branches in 1970, when the first was opened. Between 1986 and 1996, five further branch facilities were added, extending the library's reach across much of the district. The main building at Żwirki i Wigury underwent comprehensive renovation in 2012–2013.

Structure and services

The main premises house an adult section, a children and young people's section, and an information and bibliography section. This division allows readers of different ages to use separately selected collections and receive library assistance tailored to their needs.

The library building is located in central Sieradz, close to the Market Square in Sieradz and the Regional Museum in Sieradz. Nearby, on Dominikańska street, is also the Sieradz theatre, and the city's library provision is complemented by library branch no. 2, located in the provincial hospital building.
