Cultural life in Zgierz is centred on a single venue - the municipal cultural centre, which runs a cinema, a theatre stage and a concert series all at once. This page shows what kind of events return there and at what rhythm, so you know what to expect before checking the current calendar.
The centre runs its own cinema with a current line-up - animations and family premieres for children, comedies and dramas for adults, shown regularly throughout the week, much like in bigger multiplexes, just in a smaller hall. Separately, there are special screenings, including sensory screenings adapted for children with sensitivity to sound and light - with dimmed but not dark lighting and the freedom to move around the hall during the film.
The centre runs a jazz concert series, held regularly and bringing together both local musicians and guests from outside, from classic jazz line-ups to projects blending jazz with Latin music. Separately, a local song and dance ensemble performs, presenting folk repertoire at seasonal concerts, and the programme is rounded out by anniversary concerts and galas featuring well-known hits.
The theatre repertoire is mainly touring shows - comedies and dramas performed by theatres visiting the city for a single evening, as well as one-person shows and intimate performances. As with the cinema, some shows and screenings are sensory-adapted, which makes the cultural offer in Zgierz especially accessible for families with children on the autism spectrum or with sensory sensitivity.
Ticket prices for the cinema and shows are usually lower than in Łódź, and tickets for jazz concerts fall within a similarly affordable range. It is worth checking the exact price when buying, as it varies between individual events.
Almost all of them are centred at Miejski Ośrodek Kultury Stary Młyn - the only venue in the city running regular cinema, concerts and theatre shows.
