Events in Kutno are centred around one institution: a cultural centre that runs a cinema hall, organises concerts and hosts theatre shows by touring companies. It isn't a city with a large cultural scene like Łódź, but it has its own steady rhythm - regular film screenings, monthly concerts and a few theatre shows a season.
The largest group is film screenings at a small cinema hall - a daily, recurring offer, not one-off events. Alongside this, concerts take place regularly, from classical music and jazz to performances by well-known bands and artists, as well as theatre shows - both comedies by touring theatre companies and performances by local amateur groups.
The small cinema hall at the cultural centre runs a programme that changes weekly, mixing family films with productions for adult audiences. It's the only permanent cinema venue in the city, so for Kutno residents it's the natural first choice for a film night without travelling to a bigger city.
The cultural centre and a second cultural venue in the city organise concerts across various genres: classical and chamber music, jazz, world music as part of a recurring festival, and performances by bigger, well-known artists. These are rarer events than film screenings, but they form the most important point in the city's cultural calendar.
Kutno's theatre repertoire combines comedies and shows by touring professional theatre companies with performances by local amateur groups, which have their own regular audience in the city. Shows take place at the cultural centre's hall and at the second cultural venue, less often than concerts, but regularly throughout the year.
Film screenings are an offer for whole families, with a separate family programme in the afternoon slots. Concerts and theatre shows draw a broader, adult audience, though some proposals are aimed directly at children too. This is a local offer, built with residents of the city and surrounding area in mind, not tourists visiting for a single evening.
Tickets for film screenings and most concerts are available at the cultural centre's box office, and for more popular events, also online. The halls have a limited number of seats compared to the large venues in Łódź, so it's worth booking ahead for bigger names. The current film programme and concert calendar change weekly, so it's worth checking them right before a planned visit.
Most events in the city are organised by the cultural centre - that's where film screenings, concerts and theatre shows take place.
