Arkadia is one of the most valuable romantic gardens in Poland, a few kilometres from the palace in Nieborów. The whole site covers a small area, but the densely arranged structures mean a walk through the park easily fills a whole afternoon.
The Park w Arkadii was founded in 1778 by Helena Radziwiłł, who developed it right up until her death in 1821. The garden's architecture was designed by Szymon Bogumił Zug, and among the ponds and old trees stand the Temple of Diana, the High Priest's Sanctuary, an aqueduct, the Grotto of the Sibyl, the Warden's House, the Gothic House, the Roman Circus and the Amphitheatre - the walk leads from one structure to the next. On the Poplar Island stands a tomb, and the princess's collection also includes medieval Cuman stone figures from the 12th-13th century, known as babas.
The garden has a separate entrance, ticket and opening hours from the neighbouring palace in Nieborów - a standard ticket costs 16 PLN, a reduced one 10 PLN, and admission is free on Mondays (it is worth checking the prices before your visit). The site combines well with a visit to the Nieborów palace and other zabytkami regionu (historic monuments of the region), and a walk among the old trees suits couples especially well, along with fans of klimatycznych miejsc (atmospheric places) in the Łódź region. The full list is shown by the mapa atrakcji (attractions map), and similar parks and gardens - by the category parki i przyroda (parks and nature).
