Over 110 places in the western part of Łódź: the Orientarium at the Łódź Zoo, Aquapark Fala, the Botanical Garden and Park na Zdrowiu, alongside Stare Polesie, meaning over seventy addresses in a quarter of Art Nouveau tenement houses. The district splits clearly into two parts, and it's worth knowing which one you're heading to.
The family-friendly part of the district lies along Aleja Unii Lubelskiej and Konstantynowska street. Orientarium at the zoo is an elephant pavilion and shark aquariums, Aquapark Fala at Aleja Unii Lubelskiej 4 runs all year round, and the Łódź Botanical Garden and Park na Zdrowiu, the city's largest park, are right next door. For children there's also the Mini Park Linowy Zoolandia (Zoolandia mini rope park) (Konstantynowska 8/10) and PumpTrack on Konstantynowska 3/5. That's 24 places within a fifteen-minute walk, so there's more than enough for one day.
The other part of the district has over seventy addresses in dense development west of Piotrkowska. It hosts the most theatre stages in the city outside Śródmieście: Teatr Pinokio (Kopernika 16), Teatr Studyjny PWSFTViT (Kopernika 8), Teatr Logos (Skłodowskiej-Curie 22), Teatr Szwalnia (Struga 90) and Teatr V6, a dance theatre on Żeromskiego 74/76. On Łąkowa 21 stands the Willa Teodora Milscha (Teodor Milsch Villa), home to the Muzeum Sztuki Iluzji (Museum of the Art of Illusion), and a few dozen metres further, on Łąkowa 29, Klub Wytwórnia, on the grounds of a former film studio.
The district also has the Muzeum Książki Dziecięcej (Museum of the Children's Book) (Gdańska 100/102), the Museum of the Medical University and the Izba Pamięci 28 Pułku Strzelców Kaniowskich (Memorial Room of the 28th Kaniów Rifle Regiment), both on Żeligowskiego 7/9. Add to that 22 murals, the most after Śródmieście.
Besides Fala, you can swim at the Zatoka Sportu Politechniki Łódzkiej (Łódź University of Technology Sports Bay) at Aleja Politechniki 10, where a regular ticket starts at 15 PLN, and at MOSiR Retkinia at Popiełuszki 13b. Climbing and trampolines can be found at Stacja Grawitacja at Aleja Politechniki 1, and skateparks are in Retkinia (Kusocińskiego 1) and Stare Polesie (Legionów 65).
Stare Polesie (over 70 places), Zdrowie-Mania (24), Karolew-Retkinia-Wschód (11), Retkinia, Koziny and Lublinek-Pienista. Choose an estate in the panel alongside to narrow the list.
What to see in Polesie with children? The zoo with the Orientarium, Aquapark Fala and the Botanical Garden all lie next to each other in Zdrowie. The catalogue lists 12 places here marked as attractions for children.
How much does admission cost? An hourly ticket to Aquapark Fala starts at 22 PLN on weekdays, and admission to the university pool starts at 15 PLN. Park na Zdrowiu, part of the Botanical Garden's grounds, and all the murals are free - there are 36 such places here.
How to get to Zdrowie? Trams run from the centre along Aleja Unii Lubelskiej and Konstantynowska street; the ride takes about twenty minutes from Piotrkowska.
Is Stare Polesie worth exploring on foot? Yes, it's a quarter of turn-of-the-century tenement houses, and all the theatres and museums listed here are within a twenty-minute walk.
You'll find the other districts on the attractions in Łódź page, all the places at once on the map, and what's happening in the city over the coming days in the events calendar.
