Stary Widzew combines industrial history with academic life - a former vodka factory today houses a cultural complex, and a few streets away future film directors and cinematographers are trained. Two libraries round out the offer for the district's residents.
Monopolis and the Film School palace
Monopolis on Kopcińskiego street is a former tsarist vodka factory from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, converted into a complex with an art gallery, a museum, a theatre and restaurants in historic brick halls - a place for a whole afternoon, not just a quick visit. A little further on, in the former palace of Oskar Kon on Targowa street, is the Film School, a working university - the building is mainly viewed from the outside, and entered on the occasion of open events.
Libraries for adult readers
Stary Widzew has two branches of the Łódź-Widzew Municipal Public Library for adults: branch no. 5 on Wilcza street and branch no. 2 on Łagiewnicka street. Before visiting branch no. 5, it is worth checking on biblioteka.lodz.pl whether it has reopened after renovation.
