Stary Widzew has two murals by international artists in its street-art collection, both created as part of the Urban Forms Gallery programme. A third mural once recorded in this area, by the Bajkonur club on Piłsudskiego Street, no longer exists - it disappeared along with the club's closure, so it's left out of this description.

Which mural in Stary Widzew should you see first?

On the gable wall at Miedziana 14, the Hygienic Dress League duo from Detroit painted a large pigeon in 2012, a motif that recurs in these artists' work. The second mural, at Matejki 21/23 on the wall of a University of Łódź dormitory, is a colourful interpretation of the Tower of Babel by Mei Yan Jane Lee, known as Messy Desk, symbolising the multicultural mix of the international students living there. The artist, known under the pseudonym Messy Desk, has said in interviews that the work at Matejki was her first mural on such a large scale.

Both murals are free to see from street level, at any time, without needing to enter private property. More Urban Forms Gallery works in other parts of the city can be found on the murals in the Łódź region page, and the mural trail in the centre is described on the murals in Łódź page.
