Teatry i opera: Stary Widzew

In Stary Widzew, the independent theatre scene is complemented by two culture houses set up in former factory buildings - one already open, the other returning to use after a long renovation.

Where in Widzew can you see an off-theatre performance?

Teatr Zamiast is an independent theatre founded by graduates of the Łódź Film School, who themselves renovated and adapted a former factory building in the Widzewska Manufaktura complex on Piłsudskiego 135 into a stage. The adaptation of this space became a turning point in the history of Łódź's independent theatre movement, and the theatre gained recognition already in its first season.

What about art classes for children and adults?

The Dom Kultury Ariadna, a branch of the Miejska Strefa Kultury (Municipal Culture Zone) on Niciarniana 1/3, is housed in the historic building of the former Ariadna thread factory from 1892 and, after a thorough renovation, runs dance and art classes. A similar role is played by the Dom Kultury Widok, in a former manufacturer's villa on Aleja Piłsudskiego 133, where workshops for local residents are opening after renovation - it is worth checking the current class schedule and opening hours before your visit.
