28 attractions

Śródmieście is the heart of Łódź's Urban Forms Gallery - dozens of murals within a walk of a dozen or so minutes from Piotrkowska. Below is a route grouped by street, so you can walk it without doubling back to the same spot twice.

Sienkiewicza and around the Philharmonic

Opposite the Łódź Philharmonic, at Sienkiewicza 18, stands Eduardo Kobra's portrait of Artur Rubinstein - geometric, multicoloured, one of the most recognisable in the city. A little further, at number 39, the cat-woman from Raspazjan's work looks as if she's sitting on the neighbouring roof, and at Sienkiewicza 71 a French duo painted a photorealistic scene inspired by a carousel from a Tokyo park.

Piotrkowska itself - facades and courtyards

On the facade of the tenement at Piotrkowska 152, since 2001, you'll find "Łódka", one of the oldest large murals in the city, and at number 71 - the fresco "Łódź w Pigułce" with 31 notable residents of Łódź. Two murals are hidden in courtyards and are easy to miss from the pavement: in the courtyard of Piotrkowska 26, the lettering "ZwyKły" by the group Twożywo, and in the courtyard of Piotrkowska 48 - "Kanony urody kobiecej" by the duo Raku and Barys.

Roosevelta and the OFF Piotrkowska zone

In the car park in the OFF Piotrkowska zone, at Roosevelta 18, is a joint work by Etam Cru and Robert Proch from 2016. At Roosevelta 17, on the House of Literature, hangs a tribute to a poet - "Kwiaty polskie" by Gregor, and at Roosevelta 5 a pair of dancing figures is a joint work by the Brazilian duo OS GEMEOS and the Spaniard ARYZ.

Legionów and the Mia100 Kamienic programme

Two murals on Legionów were created as part of the Mia100 Kamienic revitalisation programme: the fantastical house made of pipes, M-CITY at number 19, and the geometric abstraction by PENER at number 27, on the facade of a youth hostel.

Kilińskiego, Rewolucji and Traugutta

At Kilińskiego 26, a heart joined with a dragonfly is "Sentir" by Alexis Diaz from Puerto Rico, and at Kilińskiego 43, next to the Jaracza Theatre, the duo KIRK and Gregor echoed a theatre stage in its form. On Rewolucji 1905 r., the black-and-white mural by Takie Pany recreates scenes of workers' demonstrations, and at number 39, on the building of the UŁ Faculty of Economics, hangs "Nauka kluczem do wiedzy" by BARYS. At Traugutta 9, the distorted figures of ZBIOK critique social stratification.

Narutowicza, Żwirki and Kościuszki - towards the station

Not far from the Łódź Fabryczna railway station, at Narutowicza 25, rises the Amazonian jungle by Nunca, an artist exhibited at Tate Modern. At the junction of Aleja Kościuszki and Żwirki, a mural by the American group TATS CRU with the flag of Łódź covers almost 800 square metres, and at Aleja Kościuszki 27, SAT ONE and Etam Cru painted a dynamic scene of a falling boy.

Standalone works on Zachodnia, Pomorska and Tuwima

At Zachodnia 52 you'll find a hyper-detailed composition by Gregor, at Pomorska 28 the geometric abstraction "Vicious Delicious" by the Spaniard KENOR, and at Tuwima 16 - a second Łódź mural by M-CITY, gear wheels inspired by the structure of the Centre Pompidou.

How to plan a mural walk

The whole route lies within a walk of a dozen or so minutes from Piotrkowska, so you can cover it in two to three hours without a car. All the murals are in public space and free to view at any time; photos come out best on a sunny afternoon, when the light falls on the facades along the street. Some of the works, especially in the Piotrkowska courtyards, aren't visible from the pavement - it's worth stepping through the gateways.
